| If
your good with technical units and a computer you should not need these
instructions as when
you first plug the unit in the display will tell you what to do. These
instructions are really for people who are maybe less fimilar with
technology. All that
said I have designed these units to be as user friendly as possible. If
you don't understand any text instructions there are videoes to show
you
how. |
|
| When you plug the
unit in
(unless you have already set it up with your own settings) you will be
presented with a scrolling display asking you to connect to the wifi
network hdservices (there will be a unique number too after hdservices
making up the name 001...) There are a multitude of different wifi
enabled
devices you can use to connect to the unit but most of them will prompt
you that
the connection has no internet and is an unsecure connection. Don't
worry you are only connecting to the unit and agree to remain
connected. no password is needed to connect to the unit (although you
can later set a password on the unit to prevent unauthorised
adjustments) |
|
|
| Once
connected to the unit assuming you are using a mobile phone you will
temporarly loose your devices internet connection (Dont forget to
connect back to your normal network when finished.) Open a web browser
on your device now connected to the unit and in the address bar type
192.168.4.1 and you will be presented with a web page similar to the
picture to the right. Depending on your phone settings this might take
a while as some phones start using the phone 3G or 4G network
connection to look
for the page on the internet because as far as your phone is concerned
you are trying
to connect to the internet rather than what is now a private network
between your phone and the display. iphones seem to handle it OK but my
android sometimes needs to have the phone data connection turned off to
connect. If using a
mobile phone its best to use it in landscape view (on its side) |
 |
|
| There
are a number of dropdown lists used to set the date and time for
example and a dropdown list where you can store pre written messages
for the display for quick selection (click Edit list to edit it.) Under
'Text to show on display' will be the current text in a
text box that you can directly edit as required. Below this is a
brightness adjustment for the unit. |

|
|
| Furthur
down the page you have the option to display the date and or time
(Please be aware the clock stops running when the unit is disconnected
and as a result will not show the date or time if disconnected and
later reconnected (not a lot more annoying than the display advertising
the
wrong time) although the time has been saved in the unit so you only
have to connect to it and prompt it to again to show the date and time
as
required after reconnection to a supply. The next option is
milliseconds between frame advance (the
lower the number, the faster the display will pass across the screen. |
 |
|
| When
the unit is supplied there is no password on it. You can set a password
as required and when set you can only change the date and time without
it. Use the dropdown list to the right to select to set a new password.
If you later need to change this password using the existing password
you will have to clear the unit password by selecting to clear it. then
the unit will let you set a new one as required. This password as well
as other settings are stored on a file within the unit so if you unplug
it an relocate it things will remain as they were. |
 |
|
| When
you have updated the page as to your requirments simply press 'Click
here to update'
and the unit will acknolwedge you with a message 'Please wait' while it
updates. Very important, close the browser window when you have
finished. It is also a good idea to clear your browsing history too. If
others have access to your PC or phone. This is so others don't simply
examine your browsing history as with this information anybody who
knows how could if they wanted to mess things up for you. |

Troubleshooting
/ Problems
|
| Only 1/2 or a blank black web page is
being displayed |
This
can sometimes happen if you update the unit with long
messages.
Simply disconnect the unit wait 5 seconds and plug back in. then
reconnect to the unit and refresh the page at 192.168.4.1 if that fails
you will have to do a total reset as described below |
Troubleshooting I've lost / forgotton a password I set on the unit.
|
There
is what you might call a master password and total reset for that.
connect to the unit using the address 192.168.4.1/reset. enter the
master password and the unit will revert to as new factory settings. |
|
|
| The display is going so fast and I don't know
what to do. |
Sometimes
this can happen if an internal file becomes corrupt. and the delay
(speed) setting can go to '0' Set the delay and all should be resolved.
failing that you will have to do a master reset as described above. |
|
|
| Nothing is showing on the display, its dead? |
This
can happen if you set the message to nothing or just space characters
and do not show the clock. Or only show the clock and then un plug the
unit and plug it in again. This as the unit will not show the time and
date
after a powercut and you will need to prompt it the time is
set correctly and to show the same. |
|
|
| I can connect to the unit but my browser will not
load a page at 192.168.4.1 |
This
can sometimes happen if your phone is still connected to 3g or 4g data
as it might be looking on the internet for the page rather than what
you have joined (a private network between your phone and the unit) try
turning off your phones data connection. |
|
|
| I'm
really not getting on with this unit and I'm not happy with it. I've
tried all the help and troubleshooting on this page but I just can't
get on with it. |
I am sorry to hear that, If its under 3 months
old and still in working condition and not damaged or dissambled send
it back and I'll provide you with a refund within 10 days of its
return. Your disassembly of the unit or my receiving it back damaged
will invalidate this limited warranty. Please note the unit is rated at
5 volt via a + center pin on a 5.5mm barrel plug. Connection to any
voltage greater than 5 volts will destroy the display, is potentally
dangerous and will invalidate any warranty. No user servicable parts
inside. |
|
| Please
be aware before purchase: These units come in a hand made pine casing
and
are not all exactly the same. I am a retired person just tinkering
around in the workshop making these units from electronics supplied
from abroad and software I have written myself. If you like your unit,
please tell a
friend if you don't subject to the above just send back for a refund.
Purchases can only be made using Ebay and refunds will only be given
using Ebay ( you don't have to join Ebay and can use almost any
card for payment.) This gives us both a bit of security and makes my
tax return easier. |
